Sorry to say, but Central Indiana, while having a few good recovery houses (or halfway houses), there are many not-so-good as well. When you or your loved one decide you need to find transitional housing for an addiction, there are some key things you should look for:
1. GOOD INDIANAPOLIS RECOVERY HOUSES SHOULD HAVE QUALIFIED STAFF. This doesn't mean they have to be psychologists or anything like that. After all, part of the power of good Indianapolis halfway houses is that they are peer-directed. The problem is that too many of these Indianapolis sober houses just put the person with a few weeks or months clean time in charge of the whole thing. That's a recipe for disaster. Good Indianapolis halfway houses will be led by staff with no less than a year clean and sober. While not all staff need to have professional certifications, it's nice to have at least one person who lives on the premises who has some kind of relevant credentials hanging on the wall.
2. GOOD INDIANAPOLIS HALFWAY HOUSES SHOULD HAVE MEETINGS / RECOVERY CLASSES ON SITE. Too many people, thinking that recovery is a money-making business for them, move some guys in and then just tell them to go to some AA or NA meetings. You'll be able to tell a sober living house that has its act together by whether they have their own meetings and classes for the men to attend right on the premises.
3. GOOD INDIANAPOLIS RECOVERY RESIDENCES CAN SHOW YOU THE EVIDENCE BEHIND THEIR METHODOLOGY. For instance, at our facility, we promote faith activities like prayer and church attenance, like 12 Steps meetings, like one-on-one meetings with sponsors and / or counselors because there is an abundance of evidence that suggests these things work.
4. GOOD INDIANAPOLIS HALFWAY HOUSES DON'T LOOK LIKE YOU THINK HALFWAY HOUSES LOOK. This is just my way of saying, check out the premises. People who care make sure that the house shows they care.
Keep these things in mind as you're searching through the various Indianapolis recovery house options.
